Egg donors give a gift of hope to couples who are unable to conceive a child using their own eggs. This gift can make the dreams of having a family come true for couples struggling with infertility. If you are considering being an egg donor, Beginning Families can provide you with the correct information and support you need to make the decision that is right for you.
If we determine that you meet the requirements to act as an egg donor, we will begin the matching process with the Intended Parents. Once you are matched, a contract will be drafted. You will review this contract with your own attorney and, once both parties have reviewed the contract, it will be signed. Beginning Families can assist you with obtaining proper representation by an attorney who practices Assisted Reproductive Technology law. The attorney’s fees will be covered by the Intended Parents.
Once the contract is in place, you will begin the medical screening and psychological exam. These costs will also be covered by the Intended Parents. These evaluations are necessary to ensure you are fully prepared and capable of completing the egg donation cycle safely and successfully.
Once the screenings are complete and the contract is in place the egg donation process can begin. For a donor, the process will include the stimulation of egg production and the egg retrieval. The stimulation phase requires the donor to undergo blood tests, ultrasounds and injections to stimulate egg production. Once the doctor determines the follicles are mature, the egg retrieval is scheduled. The egg retrieval is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires a light general anesthetic and lasts about 20-30 minutes.
As with any medical procedure, there are risks and possible side effects. These risks will be thoroughly discussed with the doctor before beginning the process. Beginning Families provides support to the donor throughout the entire process to ensure that she feels completely informed and educated regarding egg donation.
